Q: What Can I do in advance to be ready to come to work every day?
A: Go through our website and get familiar with other YMCA facility's websites and the history behind the YMCA.
Q: What should I know about you before I start working here?
A: I don't like doing one thing for a long time, and I like having fun while I work. I like having communication with other co workers and I always have to be organized. I grew up in the South Bay region so it is important to know my community and what they want. I have 3 kids, I like having the ability to manage time for work and my kids. I am a family woman but I also like my work.
Q: Why did you choose to work here?
A: I wanted to work for an organization that did important things other than just money, I wanted something that impacted our community.
Q:Do you consider your career area satisfying?
A: Yes! I get to use my strongest skills and I work with different people from the company. Every two days are different for me at work.
Q: Is there anything you wish you'd realize about work at my age that you didn't know before?
A: Appreciate school and doing homework everyday. It doesn't matter what you decide to get a degree on as long as you have something to show in the future to people. Think of it as an opportunity to learn one more particular subject that you are really interested in.
Q: What type of student were you?
A: I was a social girl always involved in school related things. I was in cheer in high school, Girls League service club, and i would be involved in committees for homecoming dances and other school events. I had okay grades in high school and college. I was a basic student, not honor role but good enough to get by. I was a student political activist in college that protested against racism, and it really helped me get my voice heard to others.
Q: What helped you stay centered and persevered to graduate?
A: I always had responsibility's to be a good person, I was also influenced by my family to become successful. I always wanted to do my best, so in the long run it would pay out to me and my future kids.
Q: What was it like to get to the path of your career?
A: It was full of ups and downs, I gradguated college and got married right after at 23. I got a job right out of college and it lasted for about three years I experianced difernt workfields before I got to the Y. I worked at the Otay ranch mall in marketing for 7 years but I eventually left because I was not being treated right and the company that I worked for eventually got bankrupted so another CEO took over and he was not very nice. They were laying off multiple people and I always had the doubt if I was next. It was just too much stress and I wanted something stable where we all got along and did important things. I started off in from the bottom and familiarized myself with mostly every position and how it feels to be new, I now am able to comprehend others better and work with them so that they feel comfortable and I can be understanding. I eventually heard about the Y from a friend and immediately got hired and I love it ever since.
