Science Fiction Project
The Science Fi project would have to be one of my favorite projects so far in this semester. This project was all about creating your own premise and writing a short story that involved science fiction. At first we were introduced to the movie "Jurassic Park" so we can examine the logical leaps in the story vs the real science and get an idea of how to create a science fiction story. This project wasn't all about imagination though. For every logical leap we created in our story we had to find the real science behind it and incorporate to our own story's so that it made sense and it wasn't all fiction. At first, we each had to write a Down Draft so that we can have something to edit and others to critique. The goal was to get everyone in my class to write a short story so that in the end we would all have a Final Draft of our story's and could gather them up to create a student short story published book. By the help of our Humanities teacher we were able to get all the resources and guidance we needed by providing us with a Big Idea Graphic Organizer, and a World Building Graphic Organizer that helped us with the structure our pieces. Our Biology teacher helped us more on the science behind our story and how to make it more realistic by helping us us with our "Research Document" and "Logical Leaps" graphic organizer.
Potential first draft Premises
These were the first Premises I wrote down in my Write Club to get an Idea of which one I was going to finalize for my story. You cant really read it well but two of the ones that interested me the most was, "What if there were aliens who came down to earth and started attacking, and what if there was a way to 3d print anything you could imagine and still have the same functions?"
Seed text Mind Map
This was one of the first exercises we did to give us an understanding on what premises are, and how to pick off multiple story's with one idea. The Premise for this poster was, "What if a certain race on earth was on the verge of extinction." My groups Seed Text Mind map ended up being posterity because when we turned it in there were papers all over the table and some where thrown away or just lost.

Science Fiction Reflection
This overall project was really fun but a lot of work. The topic I first decided to write about was on a 3d printer, my premise was " What if there was a man who invented a 3d printer that can print anything and bring it to life." In the beginning of this project I wasn't really satisfied with the 3d printer premise and I felt hopeless and lost. But as we started to get more graphic organizers and exposure to others premises I started to get an Idea of what I was going to write. It suddenly hit me one day, "What if there was a man who discovered a formula that gives you the same powers as the fountain of youth?" I started to think more about the idea and soon had a story in my head that I felt way more comfortable telling than a story about a 3d printer. I became really enthusiastic about my story that I was eager to start writing it, and forgot about the whole 3d printer premise. I really enjoyed being able to get to write my own science fiction story and not have someone telling me a prompt. I have always loved to write whats on my imagination and I found it really easy to come up with a story and bring it to life. The most exciting part was getting to understand how science fiction stories work and how to analyze a premise. The toughest part for me I would have to say was putting my wonderful idea on paper in a way that makes sense and isn't completely boring for the writer. Before we were writing our short story's we were always being assigned 'Short Stories" the only thing was they weren't short. The readings we would get would be around 10 pages and apparently that's what I thought was a "Short Story". So I began writing this 6 page story thinking it was still to short, in which I later found out it could have been a page. I don't regret writing it because I feel like I got to really express myself in my writing along with being a big accomplishment, so I decided to keep on going and finish it. My first draft only had a couple paragraphs of the introduction of the setting and characters but I eventually started to type more and more as the days went by. My mind had a clearer understanding with the graphic organizers and my peers. My final draft I must say, really impressed me because I have never written so much in my life and I thought it would be really hard. I ended up getting a lot of compliments from my peers and I felt more than proud for once in my writing. Something that I plan on taking from this project would have to be looking for different people to critique my work and give feedback. I feel like this helped me a lot because I got to see different perspectives on my work and it helped me write my story better so that my audience could understand. I really enjoyed this project and I hope My teachers can share this with their new students one day.
