Part 1
Problem Statement
Our goal for this project was to try and introduce to students and families the cost of colleges and the Financial Aid we could get according to different scholarships and family income. In order to do this we created a spreadsheet that had all types of different information on different colleges and an estimate of the amount each student will have to pay according to the college they applied to, family income, home income, family savings , number of siblings and etc..

Process
For the net price calculator assignment I was paiured up with Andres Lopez. We wanted to create a fake students information that was basically considerd a minority here at High Tech High Chula Vista. Our fake student was named Chancho, his financial status wasnt good compared to everyone elses but we did that so more people can relate to this student.

Our fake student was named Chancho, his financial status wasnt good compared to everyone elses but we did that so more people can relate to this student.
After plugging in some fake information for Chanchos financial status bar in our fake student profile spreadsheet , we incorporated those numbers into some actual Net Price calculators. It's actually easier than it sounds, you basically go onto the college you are interested in and look up their schools Net Price calculator, because each school varies depending on multiple variables. And You just fill out the necessary information they ask for so you can get a pretty close estimate of how much that college tuition will cost you.
Based off Chanchos Family income # of siblings, etc.. He would have to pay this amount for attending to these differnt college.

Although this was a really cool tool for later use in life, I did not enjoy this project at all. I barely had help from anyone and my partner was always lost in everything, so I felt like I was on my own. I still handled my own work and was able to complete it after feeding to all my peers for help.
Solution
This is a picture of all the fake student profiles we created in the end as a class.
Self Assessment
For the first part of this project I would have to give myself an A. I really struggled a lot in the beginning of this project because everyone was just in their own thing and when I would ask for help everyone responded super rude. My partner was never even my partner because I felt like I did all the work and I was confused the whole entire time. I ended up going with Gio and Jose to do my own thing because I was clearly not getting enough work done with my previous partner. As soon as I started going with Jose and Gio I started to get all my work done! I did not give up but instead kept on looking for people to help me and try to understand the lesson. I deserve an A for the effort I put and all the obstacles I overcame that were just carrying dead weight.
Part 2
Problem Statement
For the second part of our project was to create our own calculators on how to calculate how much students and parents would end up paying with loans, monthly fees, and other important variables. the main goal was to put in a number and get all the information of expenses you would have to pay.
Process
Before we got to even start making our calculators Kirby gave us a handout which contained information on how college loans work. Having this information, it gave us a better understanding on how much a student can get a loan on each year for as many years needed, accordingly.. We then created equations that had the loan information Kirby gave us so that our personal calculators would work.
The first part of this process was to get the students and parents information and plug it into our calculators to be able to get the yearly expenses needed to pay off the college.
The challenge for the equation was to basically figure out how to properly use the " If " statement string on the spreadsheet. If we basically found out how it worked, it was the key ingredient to be able to just plug in one number and get all these numbers in return.
This equation means if the cost is less than or equal to $5,500 then that is the amount the student borrows but if it is higher than $5,500 then the student can only take out that much and the rest the parent borrows.
We used the same equation for determining how much in the sense of finding how much for the years costs and the only thing that would change was the amount of money you can take out as years pass.

This is how much I would have to pay for CSU Channel Islands If I graduate in 4 Years. If I don't graduate in 4 Years my cost for 5 years would be 16,672$ more!
Solution
Our solution was pretty simple in the end. Here is a link so you can try it out yourself! Cost Of College Loan Calculator
Self Assessment
For the part two section in our project I feel like I did way better than my first! It was this part where I already started growing more interest in the project since I was always with Gio, and Jose. I feel like they influenced me for good in this project because they were always on task and they were awesome sources for help! It was pretty easy when they would teach me teach me how to do the things I had questions on because they couldn't just give me the answer, I had to make sure my spread sheet had the right numbers and were positioned correctly. So I have to say I deserve an A because I started learning new things and I never gave up for this part to learn more!
Part 3
Problem Statement
Our goal was create a presentation comparing to different life paths, one with college and the other without. We assumed we would have certain jobs according to your actual interest and research that career to see their annual salary and make a total maid in a lifetime estimate of how much money you will make if you decide to go that route.
Process
The process for the 3rd part was probably my favorite! We had to basically make a graph comparing the two life paths you are going to take and make a presentation for your parents explaining your future. If you would like to see my presentation you can click HERE to access my presentation!
Solution
Self Assesment
This was the rubric our parents had to fill out after you presenting your college presentation!
Written Reflection
Well My mothers reaction was pretty well actually! I was expecting her to be pretty sad and not really be excited but she took it as like a new visual profile of myself. She was pretty happy with the school choices I have made and proud that I actually want an education out of my life! She asked A lot of questions but the ones that were most impactful were " How am I going to visit you if you are that far? How am I going to pay for all this? And Why did you choose these school? It did spark up a lot of conversations which made me pretty happy because we were actually having a conversation about things instead of arguing!
